Student Elections Canvassing Policy

University Housing Services, with the support of the Association of Residence Halls, places several guidelines on canvassing and campaigning in the residence halls or the Cardinal Court complex. Groups or individuals wishing to post or distribute printed materials or canvass door-to-door must:

  1. Register with the Association of Residence Halls by filling out the Canvassing Registration Form.
  2. Be sponsored by a recognized university organization.
  3. Contact the reception desk in each hall or community center (Cardinal Court) before canvassing to inform them of the length and nature of the canvassing activities.
  4. Abide by all University Housing and university regulations.
  5. Abide by the wishes of residents who do not choose to participate.

This form must be completed 24 hours before the ticket plans to canvass. You will be contacted via email when you are approved to canvass in the residence halls.

Conferences

Annual conferences are opportunities for student leaders in the residence halls to network with other student leaders across the state, region, and nation. In addition, students attend various programming sessions throughout the duration of the conference.

ARH attends the Great Lake Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (GLACURH), Illinois Residence Hall Association (IRHA), and National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) conferences.

If you are interested in attending a conference contact ARH advisor, Elizabeth Thomason.

  • GLACURH - Great Lake Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls

This conference brings together the states of Michigan, Ontario, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana for a conference all about residence hall life.

  • NACURH - National Association of College and University Residence Halls

This national conference brings together the entire country plus students from Canada, Mexico, and even parts of Australia to share ideas and learn from other students about how to make residence hall life even better!
